
Use caution with torch fuel, as kids might think it’s juice

Nebraskans who light bamboo tiki torches for an evening gathering during the holiday weekend ahead need to use extreme caution with the torch fuel. The Nebraska Regional Poison Center warns that kids might accidentally drink the amber-colored fuel, thinking it's juice. Registered nurse Tammy Noble says parents need to educate the entire family on the dangers of these "look-alikes" as preventing such accidental poisonings is vital. Omaha police investigating Monday night homicide

Omaha police are investigating another homicide. Police were called to a home at 60th and Browne streets Monday night just before 10 o'clock. Family members had arrived earlier to check on the well being of a man who lived there. 34 year old Levi Brown was found deceased inside. Police have not confirmed the cause of death but do say they are investigating it as a homicide. The investigation is in the early stages so details have not been released. … [Read More...]
Train – vehicle collisions on the rise

There will be many travelers on the roads this holiday weekend and Union Pacific Railroad reminds drivers to use caution at all railroad crossings. Spokesman Mark Davis says it appears that more drivers are not paying attention when approaching tracks. 2012 statistics for all railroads operating in each state shows there were 28 train – vehicle collisions in Nebraska that injured 13 people with four fatalities. A state senator attempting to repeal the local option sales tax falls short of the votes needed; then issues a thinly veiled threat. The votes appeared to be there Thursday. Sen. Ernie Chambers moved to amend LB 308 to incorporate a repeal of the local option sales tax into the measure seeking to adjust how the federal alternative minimum tax is applied in Nebraska. Jack Hoffman, the 7-year-old fighting cancer who scored a touchdown in the University of Nebraska’s spring game became a national inspiration. Upper Deck then created cards of Jack and one of the silver autographed cards (three are signed in silver and one in gold) was auctioned on eBay earlier this month for The Team Jack Foundation.
