Omaha Royals discussing stadium options in Sarpy County

Omaha Royals President Alan Stein is in the metro Omaha area today meeting with Sarpy County officials to discuss the possibility of a new baseball stadium.  Talks are still in the early stages but County Attorney Lee Polikov says officials are ready to make the next move.  Polikov says they are proposing hiring consultants to study the options available to the county and the franchise.  They will have to move fast because the league will need a ballpark by 2011. Polikov says the plan is workable.

The Royals were originally expected to play in the new Omaha downtown ballpark but officials have expressed concern about the size of the stadium and some financial issues such as paying to park.  Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority of Omaha Chairman David Sokol had stated publically that the Royals are not needed as a tenant to make the stadium financially feasible.
