Another murder suspect pleads guilty

Another of the eight people charged with the murder of Brian Carson last April near Elkhorn pleaded guilty today to criminal conspiracy. Prosecutor Brenda Beadle says they dropped the first degree murder charge against Ryan King.

“He really wasn’t a significant player in the murder. He didn’t participate in the killing and he has been cooperative.”

King is the fourth person to plead guilty for their role in the murder. He is now charged with criminal conspiracy.

“He agreed to come here for the purpose helping Ryan trying to kill his dad so that was obviously part of the conspiracy. He helped plan it. They all had weapons in their hands.”

Beadle says King traveled to Omaha with Ryan Carson, the son of Brian, and help plot the murder. King did not actually kill Brian Carson.

“He was present and watched some of the killing but our evidence shows he didn’t participate in the actual killing.”

King is facing 1 to 50-years in prison.

“The judge will have lots of factors to consider. Any kind of criminal history, his family life, his role and level of participation.”

Prosecutors say Ryan Carson plotted to kill his father after he found out the elder Carson was sleeping with his girlfriend. Brian Carson’s estranged wife and daughter have also been charged in his murder. Carson was found in the trunk of his car parked in a farm field.
