Nebraska’s unemployment rate is down four tenths of a point from the previous month. Nebraska Labor Commissioner Catherine Lang says the latest figures are encouraging but that cautious optimism is in order. Creighton University Economist Ernie Goss agrees.

“Even though the unemployment rate has improved and at least stabilized, we’re still not seeing any job gains, I expect to see job gains in the first quarter of 2010 as the economy does move much more positively.”

Goss tells us that declines in farm income continue to weigh heavily on rural, agriculturally dependent economies.
