More and more scams are popping up and Attorney General Jon Bruning says in these tough financial times, he wants to make sure people are not falling for them. Bruning says his office is fielding hundreds of calls from people that are curious about suspicious phone calls, checks in the mail, and emails that promise the world – but are really intended to rip you off. U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says you should also be cautious of some charities.
“The consumer needs to be very, very careful to check out very carefully who he or she is contributing to because their are mass emails that are going out, some are legitimate, some are not, so I would encourage people to exercise extreme caution.”
Bruning says as times get tougher, more of these scams are popping up because people are desperate.
