Nelson wants to help towns like Fremont

U.S. Senator Ben NelsonDemocratic U.S. Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska says he is doing what he can to help communities like Fremont that may face costly lawsuits over illegal immigration ordinances. The city of Fremont is temporarily suspending their new ordinance to stop illegal immigrants from living or working in their city because of the lawsuit costs.

“I’ve also signed on to legislation that would reimburse state and local governments in the event that the Department of Justice files suit and loses.”

Nelson voted for a proposal last week that would have defunded the ability of the Department of Justice bring expensive lawsuits against cities that pass illegal immigration ordinances. That did not pass.
