Reports in the North Platte and Ogallala areas reveal that some telemarketers may be hijacking local numbers.

According to law enforcement, citizens have been reporting receiving phone calls from local numbers, only to determine they were telemarketers. Troy Erickson with the North Platte Police Department says the citizens that called the number that appeared on their caller I.D. learned the person at that number didn’t call them.

People receiving these types of telemarketing calls should report the incident to their local service provider.

Sergeant Billy Davis with the Ogallala Police Department says they are receiving similar complaints and, in some cases, the calls ask for personal information like a Social Security Number or banking information. Law enforcement reminds people that legitimate organizations do not solicit information over the phone or through email.
