Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle has reportedly changed his mind after saying Monday he would ask the State Legislature to eliminate the sales tax exemptions from groceries. The idea wasn’t popular with Senators. Lincoln State Senator Bill Avery told us, the proposal has little chance of passing.
“I think is dead in the water, it’s not a good idea, mainly because it would affect disproportionately those people who are least able to pay.”
Avery says Suttle would have a hard time even finding a Senator to propose the bill.
