Mello says a Special Session is needed

Senator and Appropriations committee member Heath Mello of Omaha says no special session could mean big problems in January. He disagrees with the Governor in not calling a special session after June and July tax receipt numbers came in below expectations.

“Anyway you look at it, the lack of moving into a special session is not being fiscally responsible with the taxpayers money.”

Governor Dave Heineman says there is no cash flow problem. Mello says there was no cash flow problem when the last special session was called. The Governor says the 10% drop in July’s numbers was caused by a tax rebate for a company that was taking advantage of a program that helps create jobs. Mello says we are just pushing off inevitable cuts.
