The number of cases of possible salmonella due to tainted eggs is expected to grow. There are now seven cases reported in Nebraska. Phil Rooney with the Douglas County Health Department says those who consume tainted food usually feel ill within 12 to 72 hours. He adds it is a very uncomfortable and can make someone violently ill with fever and abdominal cramps. Several of the victims had been hospitalized.
Rooney says it is a massive undertaking having nearly 400-million eggs recalled. That equals more than one egg for every person in the country.
