Governor Dave Heineman says school districts will have some tough decision to make even as he accepts $59 million from the Federal Government that will be used by school districts in Nebraska next year, After next year, school districts may have to face the fact that the money is just not their anymore.
“If someone retires, it’s very likely we will replace them, we make adjustments and they have to adjust, are you a growing school district in terms of the number of students or not, so 253 of them are going to handle it differently.
Schools are using Federal Stimulus money totaling $170 million this year and the extra $59 million for next year will help soften the blow for districts as they learn how to live with less money.
