Offutt to help prevent soldiers from being victims

A national program designed to prevent military families from becoming victims of scam artists will be established at Offutt Air Force base next month. Holly Petraeus will oversee the Better Business Bureau Military Line and says military members are constant targets for scammers.

“Military personnel get a guaranteed pay check. It comes in twice a month. They are not going to quit or be laid off. And if you have a big military installation, like Offutt Air Force Base, that can be a very big payroll.”

Petraeus says it is absolutely disgraceful that someone would want to target a service member.

“It is amazing to me, truly, at a time when we are asking so much of our military that there are people out there at home trying to pick their pocket. It is just unacceptable.”

Petraeus hopes that military families will come to the new office if they have any questions about a deal that may be too good to be true.

“Military Line is set up to help educate the military about scam and help direct them to the BBB services that can assist them.”

Petraeus is the wife of an Army General David Petraeus and says the program will provide consumer education.
