Police cars swarm Westroads Mall after shots fired Saturday night. This incident started with a shoplifter trying to flee Westroads. Off duty Omaha police officer Brian Miller was working security at the mall and tried to stop the woman. She ran to a waiting vehicle and the driver took off hitting and running over Miller. He pulled his service weapon and fired shots at the vehicle hitting the driver, 31 year old Shantae Veland. Miller was taken to a hospital and was released sometime over the weekend. Veland remains hospitalized and will recover. Police arrested 20 year old Lanisha Maxwell for shoplifting and misdemeanor assault.
