Cook critical of Lincoln closing time extension

Lincoln bars will soon have an extra hour to stay open.  On a vote of 6 to 1, the Lincoln City Council voted to allow alcohol to be sold until 2 AM, starting September 17th.  City Councilman Jonathan Cook said he thought one motivation for the change was wrong.

“We want young people to stay in Lincoln or people to come to Lincoln and I guess I’d say it would be a pretty sad commentary on our culture if the bar closing time is a major factor in if someone decides to stay in Lincoln or come to Lincoln.”

The Council also adopted an amendment from Councilman Gene Carroll that requires those serving alcohol pass a training program.  That program will be set up by the City within the next year.
