The Pledge of Allegiance and the American Flag would be focal points in Nebraska public school classrooms under a bill introduced by Lincoln State Senator Tony Fulton. He wants state statutes to say the Pledge will be recited in all public schools daily. Senator Fulton says 43 or 44 other states have the requirement in their state statutes but Nebraska isn’t one of them.
Senator Fulton says there may be some who feel threatened by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance however he says it won’t do any harm and could do some good.
Senator Fulton says he got the idea for the bill from one of his constituents who happened to be a retired Marine. A hearing on the bill is set for Tuesday before the Unicameral Education Committee.
