Wayne State women are ranked at the top of regional rankings

Wayne State is ranked first in the initial NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Central Regional Rankings. The Wildcats are 23-2 overall and have a 22-2 record against NCAA Division II teams.

Following the Wildcats in the Central Region rankings are Metro State of Colorado, Augustana (SD), Fort Lewis of Colorado and Colorado State-Pueblo in the top five. Five Northern Sun Conference teams round out the region rankings with Mary sixth followed by Minnesota State, MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The top eight teams in the region at the end of the season qualify for the NCAA National Tournament.

Wayne State, ranked third in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, hosts #23 Augustana Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in a matchup of the top two teams in the Northern Sun Conference at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The Wildcats lead the NSIC with a 17-2 league mark while Augustana is just one game back at 16-3 in league play.
