Three injured, hostage escapes Alliance standoff (UPDATE 9:24 p.m.)

Authorities say a hostage escaped the gunman, who’s held a standoff at an Alliance pharmacy since 9:50 a.m. Tuesday.

The identity of the hostage has not been confirmed, but authorities say he suffered a gunshot wound while escaping. The extent of his injuries have not been released.

At a press conference this evening, officials say three officers have been injured through the entire standoff. They have been identified as State Trooper Tim Flick and Alliance officers Kirk Felker and Matt Shannon.

Flick and Felker were treated for gun shot wounds at Box Butte General Hospital. Both of the officer’s injuries are non-life threatening injuries. Officer Shannon was treated for an undisclosed injury.

Authorities would not discuss the link, but they believe the standoff began when one person was killed at a local trailer court.

Authorities say the standoff began around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, after a botched robbery attempt of Thiele Pharmacy and Gifts.

State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says the situation there is “extremely dangerous”. Several blocks of downtown Alliance are blocked off and closed. Residents are asked to avoid the area.

Authorities will hold another press conference this evening.

Nebraska Radio Network will continue to update this developing story through the evening.
