Suspect dead after 14-hour standoff in Alliance

A standoff at an Alliance pharmacy has finally come to an end.

Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says in a statement, the 14-hour standoff ended after the suspect exchanged gunfire with members of the State Patrol SWAT team. At around 12:30 p.m.(CST), the SWAT team confirmed the suspect was dead.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Andres Gonzales.

The standoff began just before 10:00 a.m.on Tuesday at the Thiele Pharmacy and Gifts. Authorities would not discuss the link, but they believe the standoff began when one person was killed at a local trailer court.

Gonzales has one hostage, identified as the pharmacy’s owner: 62-year-old Charles Lierk. He was able to escape at approximately 5:30 p.m., but suffered a gunshot wound while escaping. He is listed in stable condition at Box Butte General Hospital.

Collins says three officers have been injured through the entire standoff. They have been identified as State Trooper Tim Flick and Alliance officers Kirk Felker and Matt Shannon.

Flick and Felker were treated for gun shot wounds at Box Butte General Hospital. Both of the officer’s injuries are non-life threatening injuries. Officer Shannon was treated for an undisclosed injury.

Collins says the area is secure and an investigation continues.
