A Nebraska man is accused of boating while intoxicated and ramming another boat and injuring two people. Early Saturday morning Robert Hawkins was in a boat on Ginger Cove near Valley, Nebraska. The boat was floating in the lake when it was hit by another at a high rate of speed.
Another boater helped Hawkins and the female passenger to shore and called for help. They were rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office arrested 31 year old Thomas Hurtgen for boating under the influence. Reports show his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
Law enforcement did not know if there were more boaters in the water so contacted area dive teams to conduct searches. No one else was hurt.
