Update – Omaha standoff

Douglas County Sheriff’s Department released more details about Monday morning’s standoff in northwest Omaha. Deputies received notice that the suspect, identified as 36 year old Lance Wetzel of Omaha had punctured the tires on his wife’s car and had left the area in his vehicle. Deputies also learned that Wetzel was suicidal, possibly armed and had an active felony warrant charging him with illegal gun possession.

At 9:30 an Omaha Police Officer spotted the vehicle and Wetzel led them on a short pursuit. That is when he refused to exit his vehicle. Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol were brought in to assist Omaha Police.

At 11:30 a sheriff’s deputy fired one shot. It is not known if Wetzel fired his weapon inside his vehicle but he was hit by gunfire. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
