CWS fans and others assured safety in Omaha’s Old Market

Thousands of College World Series fans are in Omaha this week and TD Ameritrade Ballpark is very close to the Old Market, a hot spot for both locals and tourists. This past weekend 19 year old Deanthony Bryant was shot and killed around 2:30 Sunday at 11th and Harney, right in the heart of the Old Market. Omaha Police Officer Lt. Darci Tierney says they are concentrating efforts on that area and have extra officers patrolling that area.

Lt. Tierney says even with the weekend shooting the Old Market area is, “probably the safest place in the city at this time.”

Early Sunday morning a large crowd had gathered outside of a bar. Someone opened fire and a bullet hit Bryant. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Tierney says an officer on bike patrol heard the shots and immediately responded. Bryant was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Along with officers in cruisers Omaha Police are also on bike and horse patrols for the public’s safety.
