Grants available for job training in renewable energy

Grants are now available for training in the renewable energy field. Phillip Marple is employment services supervisor with the Nebraska Department of Labor and says this is a great opportunity for recent graduates or for those looking for work. He says this synergy program is designed to help pay for the training expenses in energy efficiency and green construction fields in the Omaha area.

Classes are offered at both Metropolitan Community College and at the University of Nebraska – Omaha campus. Metro classes start in July and some at UNO start as early as next week.

Up to four thousand dollars will be made available to individuals depending on area of training.

For those in eastern Nebraska interested in learning more about the field of renewable energy and green construction, orientations will be held this coming Wednesday. The first is at 10 am at the Nebr. Department of Labor office at 57th and F Street in Omaha and then at 1 pm at the Heartland Workforce Solutions Career Center at 24th and Lake Streets.

Marple says the Department of Labor also offers an “on the job” training program and they are looking for employers who are interested in sponsoring a participant in an on the job training position. The Department of Labor will pay up to eight-thousand dollars to reimburse an employer for their efforts to help.
