Ryan Verdugo and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as Omaha blanked Iowa, 3-0, Thursday night in the second of five meetings at Principal Park. The Storm Chasers lifted their record to 56-32 with their seventh straight win over the Cubs, who have dropped 18 of their last 24 games.
The Chasers started the scoring for a third straight night when David Lough slugged a solo home run with two outs in the second inning off Iowa starter Brooks Raley. In the seventh, Max Ramirez opened with a walk and moved up when Raley made an errant throw to second base on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Derrick Robinson, who was also safe. Kevin Kouzmanoff dropped down a bunt to advance the runners who scored when Johnny Giavotella came through with a base hit to right field.
