Former baseball star Darryl Strawberry will be in Nebraska this week for several events hosted by the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Triple-A affiliate for the Kansas City Royals.
Strawberry will visit the baseball fields at Hillside Little League on Wednesday to participate in Chasers FUNdamentals. At that time he will speak to area youth from the various Omaha-area and Carter Lake, Iowa Boys and Girls Clubs and children from the Salvation Army North Corp. His presentation will focus on the benefits of hard work and dedication, as well as the ins-and-outs of the game of baseball. That evening, Strawberry will toss out the ceremonial first pitch and will participate in a meet-and-greet with fans that will occur approximately from 7 to 8 p.m.
Strawberry played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. He is a two-time cancer survivor and founded The Darryl Strawberry Foundation, which works for people with autism.
