Former eight time Major League All-Star and four-time World Series Champion Darryl Strawberry will be in Omaha this week to spread the word of the importance of baseball to youth, especially in minority areas.
Strawberry stated, “Just encourage the kids in the inner-city and the Boys and Girls Club. Play baseball. Have fun. Give them outlets instead of having them sitting at home in front of computer games.”
Strawberry will visit baseball fields at Hillside Little League in Omaha on Wednesday to take part in the Omaha Storm Chasers FUNdamentals Clinic. That includes children from several Omaha, Carter Lake, Iowa Boys and Girls Clubs. At this clinic Strawberry will talk to them about the benefits of hard work and dedication as well as how to play the game.
Strawberry will also toss out the first pitch at Wednesday’s Storm Chasers game. On Thursday he will hold a similar clinic with children involved with the Salvation Army North Corps program.
