Name of man who hanged himself at end of high-speed chase released

The name of the man who apparently hanged himself at the end of a high-speed chase in southeast Nebraska has been released.

Authorities identify the victim as 19-year-old Justin Kanniard, whose last known residence was in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol and the Richardson County Attorney’s Office, Kanniard was driving a Dodge pick-up that led officers from the Nebraska State Patrol, Pawnee and Richardson County Sheriff’s Departments on a high-speed chase from near Pawnee City to a county road just east of Humboldt in Richardson County, where the pickup ran off the road into a soybean field.

Officers at the scene say Kanniard killed himself after tying one end of a rope to the pickup and the other end around his neck before jumping out of the vehicle while it was still moving.

The investigation continues.
