Rolling billboards raise awareness to report drunk drivers

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety launched a new campaign to combat drunk driving. A dozen large delivery service trucks wrapped with important messages stress the need for citizens to report drunk drivers by calling 911 or 855 on their cell phone.

In 2011, there were 1,822 alcohol related crashes in Nebraska resulting in 1,185 injuries and 51 deaths. More than12, 000 motorists in 2011 were arrested on drunk driving charges. For the past two years Nebraska recorded the lowest alcohol related death rates on record. AAA says Nebraska has made positive steps toward getting drunk drivers off the road but education and awareness must remain a priority. AAA reports that one-third of all deadly accidents are alcohol related.

The 12 wrapped vehicles will be visiting nearly every county in the state over the next 60 days.
