Husker Olympic update for 8/7

Britney Timko, and Team Canada’s women’s soccer team got screwed. There is no other way to put it. I say that just because I don’t like when officials have a major hand in the potential outcome of a game. When I say “hand,” I mean that literally.

Team USA rallied three different times to tie their semifinal match, the third time coming on a U.S. a penalty kick after a questionable hands call against Canada in the 80th minute to tie the game. Team USA eventually won in overtime in the 123rd minute by a 4-3 final. Team USA will play Japan, Canada will play France.

I’m not trying to sound unpatriotic by any means. I’m glad for Team USA that they won and will be playing for another Gold medal. As I said, I just don’t like when officials take away from the competition on the field. Instead of people talking about the great game played by these two teams, questions remain over the officiating.

Anyway, Canada will look for revenge on the hardwood. Former Husker Chelsea Aubry and Canada face Team USA in the quarterfinals of women’s basketball today at 2pm.
