Husker football is not the only sport to take center stage in Nebraska this month. A little league team from Kearney opened play last night representing the Midwest at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. The Southeast (Goodlettsville, TN) beat Kearney 12-1.
Kearney fell behind early in the second inning on a two run homer from Ryan Lyle. Brock Myers also hit a two run homer in the fifth, giving Southeast a 5-0 lead. Jake Rucker then hit a 3-run home run in a seven run final inning.
Kearney was able to get on the board with a hit by Zane Schmidt, sending home Nathan Murray for its lone run. They drop into the losers’ bracket to face New England on Saturday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.
