An early two run homer by Max Ramirez was wasted as the Omaha Storm Chasers lost game two of their best of five American Conference Championship Series, 5-3, Thursday night at Werner Park. With the series tied at a game apiece, the series shifts back to Albuquerque.
Omaha grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second when Clint Robinson walked to set up Ramirez for his two-run blast. The Chasers added another run in the fourth when a Robinson double was followed up two batters later by Rey Navarro’s RBI double.
Albuquerque (1-1) trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth on a two-run triple by Trent Oeltjen. Josh Bard singled to start the seventh and advanced to second when Albuquerque’s Elian Herrera walked. That finished Ryan Verdugo’s night who went 6.1 and took the loss, after reliever Juan Gutierrez gave up a base hit to load the bags. The Chasers would lose their lead when the next batter singled to second baseman Navarro and two runners made it home.
Brandon Sisk allowed one unearned run to score in the eighth.
Game three is Friday night, followed by game four on Saturday and if necessary, game five on Sunday.
