American Heroes Park in Bellevue is the site of a ceremony this evening to remember the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. Organizer Bill O’Donnell says along with remembering the victims of that tragic event, military personnel and first responders from Nebraska and western Iowa will also be honored.
O’Donnell says another tradition will continue at tonight’s event. 40 people will be sworn in as new citizens of the United States of America. The ceremony starts at 6 PM.
Tonight is also a fundraising kick-off to raise $39,000 for a new memorial at the park that will include the names of the fallen. O’Donnell says they hope start construction in April and dedicate the memorial at next year’s 9/11 event.
