QB requests move to WR, Beck sees signs of old Taylor Martinez–Big Red Report (AUDIO)

Brion Carnes. NU Media Relations

In a surprising move at Tuesday’s practice, Husker sophomore quarterback Brion Carnes went to offensive coordinator Tim Beck with the idea of switching him to wide receiver. Carnes said he would be open to going back to the quarterback position down the road if that’s where the team needs him, but for now, Carnes wants to work out at receiver.

I-back Rex Burkhead did not practice again. He remains doubtful for the game against Arkansas State. One bright spot in the UCLA loss was running backs Ameer Abdullah and Braylon Heard. Beck praised their effort, as they were forced to play bigger roles. Abdullah finished with 119 yards, two touchdowns, but he did have the one fumble in the third quarter.

Beck also talked about the play of Taylor Martinez. He said in that fourth quarter, Taylor rushed and tried to do to much. Up to this point, Beck said that’s been uncharacteristic of Taylor, who slipped back into some old habits.
