Division II football preview

It’s Homecoming weekend at Wayne State. The 20th ranked volleyball squad has a match tonight, and another on Saturday night, wrapping up a full day of sports that includes soccer in the morning against St. Cloud and football in the afternoon against Augustana.

Wayne State (3-1, 3-1 NSIC) hosts their NSIC rival Augustana College (2-2, 2-2 NSIC) with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-19 loss at the hands of St. Cloud State while the Vikings also suffered a loss last weekend falling 42-34 to #2 Minnesota Duluth. Augustana holds a 7-6-1 series advantage over Wayne State in this series that started in the 1951 season. The Wildcats won a thrilling game against the Vikings last season with a 34-32 victory.

The Nebraska Kearney Lopers look for their first win in the MIAA. They travel to Lindenwood University, just outside of St. Louis, MO. to face the Lions, also new to the MIAA and D-II football. Lindenwood was an NAIA powerhouse for several years before moving up to the D-II level.

Chadron State is on the road at Adams State. Last year’s game between the Eagles and Grizzlies was a nail-biter. Eagles’ QB Brandon Gorsuch completed a 12-yard pass to Jeremy Sondrup for a touchdown with 1:38 to play. Following the ensuing kickoff, the Grizzlies completed a 39-yard pass to give Van Voris a 38-yard field goal shot on last play of the game. At the last second, the kick veered to the left and the Eagles had won 14-13.
