September economic index shows very weak growth

Creighton University Economist Dr. Ernie Goss isn’t optimistic about future economic growth in the 4th quarter after releasing the Midwest and Plains Economic Index report for September. The latest index showed what Goss says is a weak improvement with September coming in at 50.4-percent compared to August’s 49.7-percent.

Goss says we can expect inflation, slower growth, weak exports, no job growth during the 4th quarter unless lawmakers head back to Washington and address the “fiscal cliff” that takes effect in January. If it does, Goss says another recession is likely.

Goss says North Dakota, Oklahoma and Iowa are three of the nine states included in the Midwest and Plains Region that saw good growth during the month of September.
