Shawn Eichorst was introduced to the Nebraska Cornhusker family on Tuesday morning and his vision for Nebraska athletics is simple. Continue to carry on the traditions of the university and make something that is great even better. Eichorst officially takes over on Jan 1, replacing Tom Osborne.
Eichorst was complimentary of Osborne and promises to be by his side almost daily as he looks to gain a better understanding of the culture of the university. He also met with the coaches briefly yesterday evening and while football coach Bo Pelini was in attendance, Eichorst admits he has not had the opportunity to sit down and have an in-depth visit with Pelini. However, Eichorst said he is looking forward to working with Pelini in the future.
Eichorst made sure it was clear that he did not seek out the Nebraska A.D. position, but rather he was sought out by Chancellor Perlman. He was first contacted by the university in late August. He is proud of what he accomplished at Miami and said the difficult situations that institution is going through had nothing to do with his decision. He said that Nebraska is at the pinnacle of college sports.
