I liked Nebraska Coach Tim Miles from day one after listening to him at his introduction ceremony. He’s loose, enthusiastic and competitive and knows there is a lot of work ahead of him as he tries to point this men’s basketball program in the right direction. Of his players, Miles said, “They are hard-working, but we have challenges to overcome.”
Miles will come into a program that is replacing a team with four starters that finished 11th in the Big Ten. That in itself may not be such a bad thing. There is really only one way to go, however he’ll be entering this season with a roster for 2012-13 that could have just eight scholarship players on the roster.
Nebraska will be relying on its newcomers, and the three scholarship freshmen, Benny Parker, Shavon Shields and Sergej Vucetic could make heavy contributions early on. Miles also announced that that junior college transfer Mike Peltz (Alliance, Neb.) has been added to the 2012-13 roster for the start of practice today. Peltz is a walk-on who has two years of eligibility remaining after spending the last two seasons at Western Nebraska Community College where he helped lead the team to a 26-7 record and the school’s first national ranking since 2005.
