#18 Wayne State College forced Augustana College into 29 attack errors while also taking advantage of 10 service errors as the Wildcats recorded a 25-14, 18-25, 25-21 and 25-23 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win over the Vikings Tuesday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
The Wildcats forced the Vikings into 11 attack errors in the first set as WSC posted a 25-14 win. Augustana came back strong in the second set with 18 kills to defeat the Wildcats 25-18 to even the match at 1-1. WSC rebounded with 14 kills in the third set while forcing seven Augustana attack errors as the Wildcats won 25-21 to go up two sets to one over the Vikings. WSC had another 15 kills in the fourth set and rallied from a 15-9 deficit to come back and finish off Augustana 25-23 in the fourth set for a 3-1 win.
Freshman outside hitter Katie Hughes notched a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 23 digs to lead the Wildcats while Melanie Placke accounted for 11 kills. Senior middle blocker Alex Armes added eight kills and eight blocks for WSC. Redshirt freshman libero Courtney VanGroningen had 20 digs and six service aces while redshirt freshman setter Leisa McClintock was credited with 36 set assists along with six blocks.
