State unemployment rate drops to 3.9%

Unemployment dropped a notch in September.

The State Department of Labor repors the unemployment rate for Nebraska in September dropped to 3.9%. The state unemployment rate in August was 4%. The rate a year ago was 4.4%.

Nebraska ranks second among the states in unemployment. Only North Dakota has a brighter employment picture, with an unemployment rate of 3%.

The State Labor Department reports total non-farm employment in September of 959,607 with manufacturing jobs totaling 94,340.

The unemployment rate in Omaha, according to state statistics, fell from 4.3% in August to 3.8% in September. In Lincoln, the unemployment rate fell from 3.4% to 3%.
