First year men’s basketball coach Tim Miles joked when he thanked the Big Ten for scheduling Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State early in Nebraska’s Big Ten Conference schedule. Miles knows this year may be a struggle considering he has just eight scholarship players and two of those couldn’t crack playing time on last year’s squad. Miles is ready for the challenge and is ready to start building a winning program at Nebraska.

Connie Yori’s squad was picked second in the Big Ten and she says on paper, she can see why her team was picked for second. However, Yori’s biggest issue is getting her team healthy. Hallie Sample and Jordan Hooper are still dealing with issues of playing four Big Ten tournament games in four days and are slowly getting back on the court. Until this team is 100% and practicing and playing together full-time, Yori expects some struggles.

The men’s basketball season gets underway with an exhibition game on Nov. 7 when the Huskers host Midland University at 7 p.m. The regular season tips on the 10th against Southern. The women’s schedule has two exhibition games against Pitt State next Monday, and then a game with UN-Kearney on Nov. 4. The regular season starts on the 9th against North Carolina A & T.
