The Omaha men’s basketball team led briefly in the second half but was unable to pick up a win over in-state rival Nebraska, falling 75-62 on Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers improve to 3-0 (0-0 Big Ten) and the Mavs now 1-4.
Nebraska had four players with double-figure scoring: Dylan Talley (22), Andre Almeida (19), Brandon Ubel (11) and Ray Gallegos (11). Almeida and Ubel both added a game-leading seven rebounds.
Junior guard Justin Simmons paced UNO with a season-high 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field and a pair of 3-pointers. He added four rebounds, two assists and a steal for the day.
As a team, UNO shot 47 percent from the field, including 62 percent from 3-point range. The Huskers had a 46 percent effort from the floor but struggled from long range, finishing at 14 percent.
