Omaha Central, playing in the City of Palms Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida opened up the national basketball tournament with a 62-37 win over Eagle’s Landing of McDonough, GA.
The Eagles got off to a slow start, but were flying high in the second half shooting 60% from the floor and outscoring Eagle’s Landing by 20 in the half. The Eagles got four players into double figures for scoring. Akoy Agau had a game-high 16 points, with Tra-Deon Hollins and Tre’Shawn Thurman getting 12 apiece and KJ Scott 11.
The win also ties the Grand Island team from 1947-1949, with 41 straight wins for a Class A team in Nebraska.
Central plays Long Beach Poly in the quarterfinals today at 5 p.m.
