USDA projects both corn and soybean planting to drop this year

As the arrival of spring nears agriculture experts are projecting plantings. USDA Chief Economist Joe Glauber says due to good prices he expects strong grain and oilseed plantings this year. He predicts corn planting will be at 96-million acres, down slightly from 2012.

Glauber predicts that 72-and-a-half-million acres will be planted in soybeans, down slightly. When it comes to cotton, Glauber says plantings will be at 9.8-million acres. That is a drop of just over 2-million acres from a year ago.
