Lincoln Police held a press conference Monday afternoon to announce longtime and highly-regarded Police Officer John Clarke died earlier in the day after exercising. The 43-year-old Clarke collapsed and was given CPR, but was later pronounced dead. Cause of death is not yet known. Police Chief Jim Peschong says Clarke was revered by the department and will be dearly missed.

Clarke was a 21-year veteran of LPD and a K-9 handler for 15 years. During his career, he received numerous commendations and accolades. Before his police work, Clarke also played three years on the Husker Football team offensive lineman as a walk-on.
John is survived by his wife Lisa and three children.
