Former Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard received a 30-day jail sentence, two years probation and 100 hours of community service for his felony assault conviction. Lancaster County Court Judge Stephanie Stacy told Dennard the jail sentence will start March 1, 2014. Dennard plays in the NFL for the New England Patriots. March 1 falls during the league’s offseason. Terry C. Dougherty, Dennard’s lawyer, told the judge he’d file a motion to suspend the sentence if Dennard complies with probation. The judge will consider the motion before next March. The 100 hours of community service must be law enforcement related.
Dennard, wearing a Nebraska letter jacket, had no comment after the sentencing hearing and Nebraska coach Bo Pelini, who was at the hearing, left without commenting.
