The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is on the lookout for a different kind of thief. Kay Ryshon lives outside Ft. Calhoun and is the owner of an alpaca herd. She says Tuesday they did a head count and one was missing. That is when the search for “Summer” started. She says they searched the fence line and found an open section.
Ryshon says another alpaca suffered a puncture wound to the neck and it appears to have been caused by barbed wire. She says Summer is trained to lead and would have followed someone easily. She says even though summer weighs about 500 pound she is very portable and would have no problem climbing into a van. Summer is micro chipped so the chance of her being sold to another herd owner is not likely.
