Creighton looks impressive in season opening win

Doug McDermott scored 20 points in 20 minutes to lead five players in double-figures as Creighton men’s basketball opened up the 2013-14 season with a 107-61 win over Alcorn State on Friday night. The 107 points was tied for the eighth-most points in school history, and most ever in a season opener.

The game was played before a sellout crowd of 17,740, the largest season-opening home crowd in program history and ninth-largest ever.

In addition to McDermott’s 20, also in double-digits for CU was Devin Brooks (15), Ethan Wragge (15), Jahenns Manigat (13) and Will Artino (12). ┬áThe Bluejay lead was as large as 51 points on two occasions before settling on a 107-61 margin.

Creighton returns to action on Monday night with a 7:02 pm game vs. UMKC (0-1).
