Doug McDermott scored 20 points in 20 minutes to lead five players in double-figures as Creighton men’s basketball opened up the 2013-14 season with a 107-61 win over Alcorn State on Friday night. The 107 points was tied for the eighth-most points in school history, and most ever in a season opener.
The game was played before a sellout crowd of 17,740, the largest season-opening home crowd in program history and ninth-largest ever.
In addition to McDermott’s 20, also in double-digits for CU was Devin Brooks (15), Ethan Wragge (15), Jahenns Manigat (13) and Will Artino (12). The Bluejay lead was as large as 51 points on two occasions before settling on a 107-61 margin.
Creighton returns to action on Monday night with a 7:02 pm game vs. UMKC (0-1).
