UNO students qualify for national cyber security competition

Four University of Nebraska – Omaha students are heading to New York City to compete in a national cyber security competition. Spencer McClain is a senior at the College of Information Science and Technology and is part of the NULLify student cyber security group. He says they qualified after a recent 72 hour competition against 13,500 students from 82 countries.

Team members include seniors Ryan Grandgenett, Darek Jensen, Spencer McClain and junior Michael George. McClain says they will “hack” into specially designed computer programs to find flags and submit them for points.

The competition starts Thursday, November 14th and runs through Saturday, November 16th.

UNO’s team will also host an event for Nebraska high schools called 2013: A Hack Odyssey on December 7th. High school teams will compete for prizes.
