Teen charged with killing girlfriend found incompetent to stand trial

A 19 year old Omaha man accused of killing his girlfriend last August has been found not competent to stand trial.

Mikael Loyd’s attorney Rob Marcusso says he will now be sent to the Lincoln Regional Center where he will receive treatment until he is competent to stand trial.

Loyd is accused of killing 19 year old Melissa Rodriguez. Prosecutors say Loyd strangled the woman after the two argued. They say he then took her to a cemetery in Omaha near 42nd and L Streets and put her body in a freshly dug grave.

Marcusso says Loyd had just been released from mental health treatment facility the day Rodriguez was murdered.  Loyd was in court Thursday.
