NFL scouts were on campus in Lincoln on Thursday to put Husker seniors through drills similar to the NFL Combine during Nebraska’s Pro Day. Thirteen seniors from Nebraska’s 2013 senior class and three 2012 seniors worked out for NFL scouts and position coaches.
Receiver Quincy Enunwa and cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste were on hand for Pro Day after also taking part in the NFL Combine last month. In addition, Combine invitee Spencer Long went through some drills on Thursday, but he continues to recover from knee surgery. Long will have an additional opportunity to work out for NFL scouts in Lincoln in mid-April.
Taylor Martinez went through the full range of drills, and afterwards, Martinez said he also took part in the specific quarterback drills as well as running through some drills for wide receivers and defensive backs.
For Martinez to have a shot in the NFL, he must utilize his speed and those two positions, may be his best opportunity. Martinez showed no ill-effects from a foot injury that forced him to miss nine games this past season.
Now his plans are to return to Laguna Beach, CA. and continue to work out with his quarterbacks coach Steve Calhoun.
The 2014 NFL Draft will take place in New York City from Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10.
