An investigation is underway involving an officer involved shooting in Omaha late Wednesday afternoon. Omaha Police spokesman Officer Michael Pecha says several law enforcement agencies were working together in an attempt to arrest 30 year old Willie Michalak at 11th and Dorcus.
The Metro Area Fugitive Task Force and the Omaha Police Gang Unit were working together in an attempt to arrest Michalak who was wanted on a felony warrant from Dodge County. The felony warrant arrest charges against Michalak include habitual criminal, attempt of a class II felony, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft by unlawful taking over $1,500, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Officer Pecha says officers approached Michalak and shots were fired by several officers from every agency involved. Michalak was pronounced dead at the scene by Omaha Fire Department personnel.
Currently the shooting is under the investigation of the Omaha Police Department, the U-S Marshal Service and the U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Two Omaha police officers are on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
